Guitarist Hank Mackie has displayed equal parts instruction, artistry and patience for hundreds of aspiring musicians for more than four decades. Mackie earned a Bachelor's of Music in Guitar Performance from Loyola University of New Orleans and a Masters in Music in Theory and Composition from Southeastern Louisiana University. He has taught and performed a variety of styles of guitar in the greater New Orleans area and is the author of the classic Mel Bay instruction book, Fingerstyle Guitar. Mackie's true love is a style of solo jazz guitar influenced by jazz-guitar greats such as Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, Barney Kessel, Wes Montgomery and George Van Epps, the inventor-master of the 7-string guitar.
