Biography(Florida's biggest selling Rap Group)Some call The 69Boyz "the dance floor doctors", others call them "the kings of the stage", while others refer to them as the undisputed "Kings of Bass". Regardless of what you would like to reference them as, pioneers is what they are. The 69Boyz led by front-man, Van "Thrill Da Playa" along with dancers; Greg "Slow" Thomas and Barry "Fast" Wright have been breaking barriers in the Rap/hip-hop game since the early 90's.The 69Boyz hail from the sunshine state of Florida; Thrill Da Playa is from Jacksonville, while Fast & Slow are from Orlando, FL. In 1994, the group partnered with Orlando-based independent label, Rip-It Records, owned by Louis Bell, grandson of the legendary, Jack "The Rapper" Gibson. A few months after finalizing such partnership, The 69Boyz went on to record their debut album, "199Quad", the album that will put the group on the international map."199Quad", was led by the chart-topping dance smash single, "Tootsie Roll". The album would go on to become a RIAA double-certified platinum album while "Tootsie Roll" reached number 1 on the Billboard Rap Charts. The single also charted at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 on the R&B Chart. "Tootsie Roll", still remains the longest running single in the history of the Billboard Rap Charts. The second single, "Kitty Kitty", immediately followed and was certified Gold peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Rap Charts and number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.The 69Boyz were awarded three Soul Train Music Award nominations in 1995. The group went on to also receive multiple Billboard Music Award nominations and a Source Music Award nod. The success did not stop there.
